چکیده
By Susis W. FONG, ARLENE NUCKTON AND H. H. FUDENBERG M ANY SEROLOGIC tests have been advocated as aids for the antenatal diagnosis of ABO hemolytic disease of the newborn (ABO HDN). The majority of the tests currently used in most hospital clinical laboratories for this purpose make use of certain serologic properties that differentiate the isoagglutinins into two groups. Although both groups probably arise as the result of antigenic stimulation, the early literature has termed them “immune” and “naturally occurring.” The so-called “immune” isoantibodies, which have been implicated in ABO HDN, can be distinguished from the “naturally occurring” variety by their ability to agglutinate A1 or B cells suspended in AB serum even after partial neutralization by soluble specific blood group substances A and B,1 hemolyze A1 or B cells in the presence of complement,2 and react with group A pig (A1) cells.:i The clinical importance of establishing the presence of ABO HDN antenatally, thus alerting the physician to the possible need for exchange transfusion of the newborn, led us to evaluate the relative merits of the different serologic procedures used to detect “immune” isoantibodies. This report describes and compares results of such tests on the sera of blood group 0 mothers of infants with and without ABO HDN. Comparative tests were also performed on the isolated ‘y2-(7S) globulin and whole serum of mothers of infants with ABO HDN.

ABO Hemolytic Disease Leading to Hyperbilirubinemia in Term Newborns: Value of Immunohematological Tests
Introduction ABO hemolytic disease of the newborn is most common cause of neonatal jaundice; previous studies have shown a poor correlation between serologic tests and clinical course in affected infants. The aim of this study was to identify the value of direct and indirect Coombs’ immunohematological tests, to identify the incidence of hemolytic disease in newborns (ABO-HDN). Methods : This ...

Background: ABO incompatibility hemolytic disease of the newborn is a common cause of clinical jaundice and causes two-thirds of the hemolytic disease in newborns. This study was undertaken to determine the frequency of ABO incompatibility hemolytic disease and its complications in newborns undergoing exchange transfusion. Methods: This prospective and descriptive study was performed in jaundice...

Background: ABO incompatibility is the most common cause of immune hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) and in most cases is not dangerous. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of ABO-HDN and its effects on neonatal blood parameters in a population of patients referred to some training hospitals in Iran. Materials and methods: In This cross-sectional study, All newborns (a tot...

Background/Aim. Due to improved methods for removal of ABO isoagglutinins and novel immunosuppressive protocols, short and long term outcome in blood group incompatible is similar to blood group compatible kidney transplantation. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of our original method for removal of ABO isoagglutinins from the blood in ABO-incompatible kidney allograft recipi...
متن کاملImmunologic Basis and Immunoprophy-laxis of RhD Induced Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn (HDN)
RhD antigen is the most immunogenic and clinically significant antigen of red blood cells after ABO system. It has historically been associated with hemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN) which is now routinely prevented by the administration of polyclonal anti-D immunoglobulin. This management of HDN has proven to be one of the most successful cases of prophylactic treatment based on antibody ...
